How to Create a Custom Role and Set Permissions

Build a role with exactly the permissions you want, then assign it to staff.

Roles control exactly what each staff member can see and do. Use this to create a role tailored to your business.

  1. Open Roles. Click Roles in the top menu to see Shop Roles & Access Control.
  2. Click "+ Add New Role". Give the new role a name (e.g. "Cashier" or "Store Manager").
  3. Check the permissions this role should have. Each permission (like add_articles, view_reports, manage_prices) can be turned on or off individually.
  4. Save the role. It now appears in the Role dropdown when adding or editing a user.
Tip: start narrow. It's easier to add a permission a role is missing than to realize later they had access to something they shouldn't have.
